Magic Batik Wrap - Tustin



 This wrap is a magical wardrobe enhancer, a light, luxurious layer for warm days and cool evenings. It’s the perfect canvas to showcase your machine’s decorative stitches and to have fun with different threads! This also makes a gorgeous table runner or even placemats. You decide!

Supply List:

 Sewing Machine in good working order

 

  • Foot control, power cord and basic machine accessories

 Accessories

 

  • Open toe presser foot*
    ¼” presser foot (for finishing after class)*
  • Edge stitch foot (for finishing after class)*
  • Empty bobbin(s) for your bobbin thread(s) choice*

Needles

 

  • Schmetz Microtex 70/10 & 80/12*

 

Thread

 

  • Matching or contrasting cotton sewing thread for the construction*
  • Variety of decorative threads* to match or contrast with your selected fabrics for embellishment; cotton, poly, metallic, or rayon can all be used.

Notions

 

  • Fabric scissors*
  • Thread snips for trimming thread tails*
  • Rotary cutter (new blade!)*
  • Wavy edge rotary cutter blade (optional for finishing)*
  • Cutting mat (at least 18” x 24”)*
  • Acrylic ruler (6” x 24”)
  • Basic sewing supplies including sewing pins, seam ripper, etc.

Fabric

 

  • 8 assorted fat quarters (18” x 22”) for base strips*
  • 5 assorted fat quarters (18” x 22”) for embellishment*
  • 1 fat quarter (18” x 22”) or ½ yard for binding*

 

OR

 

  • 1/3 – 1/2 YD. of at least 5 different batiks*

* For best results select tightly woven 100% cotton fabrics that look good on both sides such as batiks. This is a project where MORE is better! There is no need to preshrink fabrics, but it is ok if the fabrics have been laundered.

 

 

 

NOTES: I chose a Mettler 50 WT. Silk Finish cotton thread (solid or variegated) for my bobbin thread for ALL my top decorative threads. Isacord threads, either solids or the many variegated choices, are perfect for the decorative stitching. Superior’s King Tut or Sulky’s 40 WT cotton threads are another great choice.
