It is such fun to make new quilt patterns but sometimes we just do not have the time for a whole quilt. The Nova Star pattern is perfect for a large, quilted pillow, 26” square when finished. You can have the fun of exploring the pattern and be finished in a day or 2. This is a great scrap buster. You will need pieces as large as an 8” square.
Below are the fabric requirements. You can use as few as 8 fabrics and repeat them on all 4 blocks, or you can use 32 different fabrics and each block will be unique.
Nova Star Quilt pattern**
8 - 32 ¼ yards or fat eighths
½ yard background and 2” square of cornerstone
30” x 30” batting
30”x 30” lining fabric
30”x 30” Shape- Flex iron on interfacing*
30” handbag zipper
Wonder clips*
Fabric pen/ marker/chalk*
Gel pens
Mat/rotary cutter/rulers (6x12, 8x24, a small square 6”, and a square bigger than 13”)
Quilter’s Rule Quick Quarter Ruler**
Fine sandpaper and a small mat 6”x8”
Blue painters’ tape
Iron and ironing mat

Basic sewing supplies
Zipper foot if you do not use a handbag zipper
50 wt cotton thread for piecing*
80/12 Microtex sharp needle*
40wt cotton thread for quilting*
90/14 top stitch needle*
For piecing and putting in the zipper, I recommend a 1/4” foot or mark your machine with a 1/4”. For the quilting I recommend foot number 1 with the Seam guide with scale, and then to sew together the pillow together the number 1 foot which has a natural 3/8” foot.
